"Nine Patch Square Dancing" (63" x
78") is a collection of colorful blocks that seem to float on a dark background.
Showcase many of your favorite prints when you piece yours. (Quilted by

Here's an
old-time favorite to stitch in bright colors! I used 5 dominant colors in my mini and
added one bright green square as a surprise. "Shoo Fly" (17
1/2" x 23 1/8") is my scaled-down version of Polly Briwa's full-size "Churn
Dash" quilt which was published in Issue 46 of Quilting
Today magazine. |

| Even though the blocks of "Mexican
Star" (72 1/2" x 86 1/2") are repetitive, no two look alike. I
stitched this traditional block with an explosive look, especially against a purple
background. Notice how different one of the blocks looks simply because its stripes are
darker, causing them to recede. (Quilted by Joanie Keith) |
"Spinning Nine
Patch" (62" x 77 1/2") was made using fabrics from P&B
Textiles' "Folklore" collection. I combined another of my favorite blocks, the
Pinwheel, with Nine Patches to enliven this quilt. (Quilted by Joanie

| My "4-Rail Fence"
(20" x 22 1/2") is strip-pieced using a variety of lively prints. This
is a super-fast method for making mini. Just stitch strips into panels and slice them to
make the blocks! Some of the blocks have one light strip, while others are all dark giving
your eye a place to rest as you view the quilt. |
"Stars and Plaids
Forever" (71" x 80") has a folk art feel. I set Ohio Stars with
Pinwheels in their center against an irregular arrangement of light and dark fabrics. A
pulsating, vibrant effect results. (Quilted by Cheryl Phillips) |

| I like to "play with blocks" and come up with new and
different ways to set them together. In "Comfy by the Fire"
(96" x 97 1/2"), I used lots of plaids and prints of quilter's cottons and
flannels to give this quilt a soft, comfortable feel yet masculine look. (Quilted
by Joanie Keith) |
A parade of little people march across this
quilt! I strip-pieced my "Blockheads" (27 1/4" square) to
make the project quick, easy and fun. You'll make 12 blocks using this method. Use 9 in
the quilt and save 3 for another fun project. |

| The stars of this design might not be readily
apparent, but once you notice one, they'll appear everywhere! Except for a few purposely
colored stars, the random combination of prints gives "I See Stars"
(60" x 75") a scrappy look. (Quilted by Joanie Keith) |
"After the Rain" (86"
x 103") conjures up the image of lush greenery and the scent of invigorating clean
air after a downpour. Through my use of color, I tried to create a vibrant design with
simple Nine Patch blocks set on point at intersections of a lattice. (Quilted

| I stitched this patriotic mini and gave it a
country look with a plaid border. Your scrap bag will provide some fun as you search for a
variety of fabrics to use in "Windmills" (20 1/4" square). |
African-style prints give "African
Star" (55" x 68 1/2") its bold look. The cool background is in
sharp contrast to the warm colors in the stars and strips. A strong sense of movement
occurs as your attention darts from one pulsating star to another. (Quilted
by Joanie Keith) |
