The QuiltTownUSA Gallery offers you a look at quilts from some of the premiere quilters in the USA.

It is a place where you can come whenever you are looking for some inspiration. You will find beautiful and creative quilts always on display. Visit us again and again; the exhibits are constantly changing. Stay as long as you like. Our doors never close.

Jessie Harrison of San Diego, California, was a giant in the world of miniature quilts. She felt her background as a computer professional in the aerospace industry prepared her for designing these small quilted wonders. Since 1994, Jessie won 14 awards in our annual Miniatures from the Heart Contests. She also won numerous awards in the miniature quilt category at prominent shows across the country. With her untimely death last January, the entire quilting world endured a loss. Unfortunately, there won't be any new quilts by Jessie, but she left behind a legacy for all of us and for future generations to admire.

"Golden Baskets & Blue Bowls" (8" square) won Best of Show and Judge's Choice (Donna Lynn Thomas) in the 1998 Miniatures from the Heart Contest. Jessie's Baltimore Album is an exquisite miniature rendering of Mimi Dietrich's "Baltimore Bouquets" design.

If Jessie gave her house plants one-tenth the attention she gave her appliquéd floral baskets, you bet they flourished! She arranged nine distinct floral arrangements in "May Baskets" (8 1/2" square). It won 1st Place in the Appliquéd Traditional Quilt category of the 2000 Miniatures from the Heart Contest.

Jessie's specialty for dollhouse-size needlework is apparent in "Mini Southern Belle" (5 3/4" x 7 1/2"), a small and delicately crafted work. It won 2nd Place in the Traditional Appliqué category of the 1996 Miniatures from the Heart Contest. Although "The Bouquet" (9 3/4" x 11 3/4") lacks fragrance, it certainly is visually appealing. The colorful array of three-dimensional flowers and delicate trapunto give this quilt plenty of texture. It won first place in the miniature quilt category at the International Quilt Association's (IQA) juried exhibit in 2000. Photo by Jim Lincoln, courtesy of IQA

"Rings, Rings, and More Rings" (18 1/2" x 19 1/4") won Second Place in the Traditional Appliqué category of the 1999 Miniatures from the Heart Contest. To get an idea of how intricate this design really is, see if you can count the rings without losing track. "I love the challenge of seeing how small I can make something," said Jessie, who also did miniature needlepoint and knitting. Peek into "Jessie's Quilt Shop" (9 1/2" square). It won Second Place in the 1997 Miniatures from the Heart Contest.

With blocks as small as 1/2" and pieces that measure 1/10", Jessie's "Mini Blue Sampler" (5 1/2" x 6 3/4") won the Smallest Block and Smallest Pieces award in the 1994 Miniatures from the Heart Contest. It also won first place in that year's Sampler category. Jessie used water-soluble basting thread to hold the tiny pieces in place while stitching them. "Star Burst" (20 1/4" square) is just one of the many incredible quilts made by Jessie Harrison. Her enviable talents were many, including designing, choosing color, piecing, appliqué, and quilting. Jessie will be sorely missed by everyone who knew her, and by those who knew Jessie only through her work.

"The Ten J's" (29" square) won Best of Show in the 2001 Miniatures from the Heart Contest. Take a peek and see if you can find the ten j's? "Geometric Study #4, the Arc" (21" square) won 1st Place in the Traditional Pieced category of the 1999 Miniatures from the Heart Contest.

"Star of Wimbledon" (25 1/4" square) won 2nd Place in the Traditional Pieced category and also Judge's Choice (Lorry Chwazik) of the 1998 Miniatures from the Heart Contest. "Scalloped Diamonds" (6" square) won the Special Creativity Award in the 1996 Miniatures from the Heart Contest.

"Mini Geese" (7/8" x 1 1/4") won Special Ribbons - Smallest Quilt, Smallest Block, Smallest Pieces in the 1995 Miniatures from the Heart Contest. "The Quilt Shop" (9 1/4" x 11") won Best of Show in the 1995 Miniatures from the Heart Contest.

"Red Path Sampler" (6" x 7 1/2") won 2nd Place in the Sampler Category of the 1995 Miniatures from the Heart Contest. Each fan block in this tiny "Fan Quilt" (5 1/8" square) is only 1" square!

"Mini Around the World" (1 1/2" x 1 3/4") won Honorable Mention in the Traditional Pieced category of the 1994 Miniatures from the Heart Contest. "Overlapping Pastels" (3 1/4" x 4 1/2") won the Smallest Pieces award in the 1993 Miniatures from the Heart Contest.

One of the smallest quilts entered in the 1993 Miniatures from the Heart Contest was "Log Cabin" (2 1/2" x 3 5/8"). An enchanting quilt shop in miniature. Take a peek into "An Enchanting Quilt Shop - in Miniature" by Jessie Harrison by clicking on the two images below.

Thread, notions and trim are found beneath the old-fashioned cash register in Jessie's Quilt Shop. Solid-colored fabrics are located on the wall behind it. A "large" Pineapple quilt (only 6" square) decorates the wall while a woven ribbon quilt (3 1/4" square) is draped on the quilt rack. Snail's Trail (4 1/2" square), Red Work (5 1/2" x 6 1/2") and Sashiko (3 1/2" x 4 3/4") quilts adorn the walls at one end of the miniature shop. A whole-cloth quilt (4 3/4" square) is in the frame and a Card Tricks pattern pillow (1 1/4" square) graces the wooden chair. All of the samples surround the shop's shelves of print fabrics and batting.
