Lily of the Valley
According to the Encyclopedia of
Appliqué by Barbara Brackman, "Lily of the Valley" is a traditional
nineteenth century design made by Nancy Cabot in 1933. There were hundreds
of Cabot patterns that were sold by mail-order and grouped in booklets
througout the 1930's and '40s. The same patterns were also sold by the
Spinning Wheel syndicate in Progressive Farmer. The patterns were reprinted
in the 1960s and 1970s by several small publishers.
Block Size: 5” square
Materials
- 2 ½” square green print
- 10” Square pink print
- 6” square blue with white dots
Cutting
Appliqué patterns are full-sized and do not include a
turn-under allowance. Make a template for each pattern piece. Trace around
the template on the right side of the fabric and add a 1/8” to 3/16”
turn-under allowance when cutting the fabric pieces out.
- Cut 1: 6” square, white shirting print, for the

- Cut 4: B, blue with white dots, for the foreground

covering the ends of the stems. Appliqué them in place.
