Perfect Pieced Squares

| Step 1 Cut 2 contrasting squares 1" to 1 1/8" larger than the size of the desired finished pieced square. Draw a diagonal line from corner to corner on the wrong side of one square. |

Step 2 Place the marked square on the remaining square, right sides together. Sew 1/4" away from the drawn line on both sided. Press the square flat. |
| Step 3 Cut the unit on the drawn line to yield 2 pieced squares. Press the seam allowances toward the darker fabric. Place a square ruler on one pieced square with the 45º line on the seamline. Be sure the top and right edges extend beyond the ruler and the square extends beyond the desired lines (in this example 3") on the bottom and left edges. |

Step 4 Trim the top and right edges. |
| Step 5 Turn the square. Align the trimmed edges with the desired lines on the ruler and the 45º line with the unit. |

Step 6 Trim the top and right edges to square the unit. |
