prints to give an "old-time" look to this traditional pieced block.
BLOCK SIZE: 8 1/2"
MATERIALS
Yardage is based on 44" fabric with a usable width of
42"
- 1/8 yard main print
- 1/8 yard background print
CUTTING
Dimensions include a 1/4" seam allowance.
- Cut 6: 2" squares, main print
- Cut 5: 2" x 5" rectangles, main print
- Cut 6: 2" squares, background print, then cut two
of them in half diagonally to yield 4 corner triangles.
- Cut 3: 3 3/8" squares, background print, then cut
them in quarters diagonally to yield 12 setting triangles.
DIRECTIONS
- Sew a 2" main print square between two 2"
background print squares to make a pieced unit, as shown. Make 2.

- Sew a 2" x 5" main print rectangle between the
pieced units to complete the center unit.

- Sew 2 background print setting triangles to a 2"
main print square. Sew a background print corner triangle to the top to
make a corner unit. Make 2

- Sew a 2" x 5" main print rectangle to the bottom of
a corner unit. Make 2

- Sew them to opposite sided of the center unit.

- Sew a background print setting triangle to each end
of a 2" x 5" main print rectangle. Make 2

- Sew them to the bottom of the remaining corner
units.

- Sew the units to the remaining sides of the center
unit to complete a Washington Square block.
