Easy Triangle Corners

Making Square-in-a-Square or Flying Geese blocks is easy.

Step 1. Cut the squares as instructed in the pattern. Draw a diagonal line from the corner to corner on the wrong side of each small square. Place 2 marked squares on opposite corners of the large square, right sides together. Sew on the drawn lines.
Step 2. Press the squares toward the corners, aligning the edges.
Step 3. Open a small square and place the 1/4" line of a ruler on the stitching line. Trim the corner, leaving a 1/4" seam allowance. Repeat for the other corner.
Step 4. Stitch small squares to the remaining sides of the large square. Press, open the square , then trim the seam allowance as before.

Problem Solving.

In photo 5, the small square doesn't reach the edge of the large square. That's because the stitching was too far inside the drawn line. Adjust the line of stitching to be sire the squares align at the corner.

In photo 6, the small square extends past the edge of the large square because the stitching was too far outside the drawn line. Adjust as necessary.
