Flight Binding (page 2 of 4) Stitching
the binding to the quilt

6
NOTE: After quilting and removing the basting, trim the excess batting and backing
to within 1/4" of the quilt top. You'll use a 1/2" seam to stitch the binding,
measuring from the edge of the batting and backing. (#6)

7
- Beginning several inches from one corner and leaving about 6" of the binding free,
pin the binding strip on the right side of the quilt so that the raw edges are even with
those of the quilt top. (#7)
NOTE: Although it is not essential, for ease in stitching binding to the quilt, we
recommend that you use a walking foot. This attachment helps to keep all layers secure as
you sew. The manufacturers of your sewing machine probably makes a walking foot that fits
your machine. Inexpensive, generic brands are also available.
