Finishing the binding

  • Continue sewing the binding in this manner, stopping 6" from the starting point and backstitching. (#12)

  • Clip the threads and remove the quilt from the sewing machine.
  • Fold both ends of the binding strip back on themselves so that they meet about 3" from the stitching lines and the binding lays flat on the quilt. Finger press to crease the folds. (#13)

  • Cut each strip 1 1/4" beyond the fold. This measurement is one-half the width of the cut strips you began with. This method of measurement applies for strips of all widths. (#14)

  • Open the strips and place the ends at right angles to each other, right sides together. (#15)

  • Fold the bulk of the quilt out of your way and join the strips with a diagonal seam. (#16)
