Rules:

  1. A quilt consists of three layers held together by stitches (except for Yo-yo and Cathedral Window quilts). Tied entries will not be accepted.
  2. Quilt size: Not to exceed 30" on any side. No minimum.
  3. Block size: If blocks are used in the quilt design, they need to be 5" or less.
  4. Holiday Quilt category: Must be an original design. May be any favorite holiday. Some examples include Christmas, Chanukah, Easter, Thanksgiving, Valentine's Day, etc. All other rules apply.
  5. Other Quilts category: Any quilt which does not meet the qualifications for the other categories (e.g. Crazy, Redwork, Stenciled, Whole Cloth, Embellished, etc.). Embellishments may consist of beadwork, ribbon work, or anything other than appliqué, which is added to the surface of the quilt but is not integral to the quilt construction.
  6. Limit: One entry per category. Quilt must be made by the entrant. Multiple entries may be posted in one mailing. The judges have the right to transfer quilts to a more appropriate category.
  7. Restrictions: Entry must not have been entered in previous Miniatures from the Heart Contests.
  8. Label: The maker's name, address, and name of entry must be listed on the back of the quilt, either in permanent ink or on a stitched-on label.
  9. Fee: Enclose $10.50 entry fee plus $3.00 s/h, an entry form and a LSASE with each entry. Make checks payable to Chitra Publications. (Other countries-enclose $10.50 entry fee plus $12.00 s/h, U.S. funds.) Entry form may be photocopied.
  10. Judging: Quilts will be judged in August 2004. Prizes will be awarded on the basis of workmanship, design, color and adherence to requirements. The Grand Prize will be awarded to the quilt that best represents these qualities. Special Ribbons and prizes will be awarded for Best Hand Quilting, Best Machine Quilting, Best New Entry (Special ribbons and prizes may be awarded for creativity.). A judges' critique will be written for each entry. Winners will be notified by September 30, 2004.
  11. Prizewinning quilts will become part of a one-year traveling exhibit. Winning quilts will be protected to the best of our ability. They will be insured for the replacement value while they are in the Chitra building only. While traveling in the exhibit we recommend your insure your quilt through your homeowner's insurance policy.
  12. Quilts that are not part of the traveling exhibit will be returned by November 30, 2004.
  13. Prizes and ribbons will be shipped by November 1, 2004.
  14. All entrants will receive a pattern designed for the contest. Grand prize and first place winners will also receive a one-year subscription or renewal to Miniature Quilts magazine.
  15. Employees of Chitra Publications, the sponsors, the judges, and their families are not eligible to enter this contest.
  16. Awards are made at the discretion of the judges, and all decisions by the judges are final.
  17. Chitra Publications reserves the right to photograph any or all quilts. Any photos taken by Chitra Publications become the property of Chitra Publications.
  18. Entry denotes permission for Chitra Publications to write and publish patterns based on quilts not made from commercial or published patterns. Chitra Publications will notify and credit the quiltmaker.

I hereby grant permission for the above entry to be included in the 2005 Miniatures from the Heart traveling exhibit. My entry will be returned to me in early December 2005 if it is part of the exhibit. If not, it will be returned by November 30, 2004. There is no restriction on photography of this piece. I understand that photos taken by Chitra Publications become the property of Chitra Publications. I grant Chitra Publications my permission to write and publish a pattern based on my quilt should they desire to do so. Any use of said photos and pattern is within Chitra Publications' determination. I will be informed where my quilt will be exhibited or published and be given a complimentary copy of any publication in which my quilt is featured.
