Double Aster
A late summer beauty - Just in time for
your flower garden!
Our Double Aster, stitched by Joanne Nolt, is right in
season. Stitch a garden quilt using this 12" block in a variety of colors. Using only
35 blocks plus 6" borders would make a 72" x 96" quilt.
BLOCK SIZE: 12" square
MATERIALS
- 16" square, light blue
- 5 1/2" x 10 1/2" rectangle, blue plaid
- 4 1/2" x 8 1/2" rectange, blue floral
- 9" square, dark blue
CUTTING
Pattern pieces are full size and include a 1/4" seam
allowance, as do all dimensions given.
- Cut 4: A, blue plaid, or cut two 5 1/8" squares in half diagonally
- Cut 4: B, blue floral, or cut two 3 7/8" squares in half diagonally
- Cut 12: C, light blue, or cut six 3" squares in half diagonally
- Cut 4: D, light blue, or cut two 2 3/8" squares in half diagonally
- Cut 4: E, light blue, or cut two 5 3/8" squares in half diagonally
- Cut 4: C, dark blue, or cut two 3" squares in half diagonally
- Cut 4: D, dark blue, or cut 2 3/8" squares in half diagonally
- Cut 1: F, dark blue, or cut a 2 5/8" square
DIRECTIONS

Stitch a dard D to a light D, as shown. Make 4 pieced
triangles. |

Stitch a light C to each pieced triangle. |
 |
Stitch B to the short side of each pieced triangle, as
shown. Set the pieced triangle aside. |

Stitch a light C to adjacent sides of a dark C, as shown. |
 |
Stitch a blue plaid A to the longest side of each pieced
unit. |
 |
Join a pieced triangle to each pieced unit. |
 |
Lay the 4 completed units around the dark F square. Begin
with a short seam at #1 in the diagram. Stitch complete seams at 2, 3 and 4, then go back
and complete the first seam at #5. Press well. |

Stitch an E on each side of the aster to complete the
block, as shown. |
