Previous Block of the Month:Double StarA vintage block you’ll want to try! This Double Star block is thought to be an old. Nancy Cabot pattern from the 1930’s. It also appeared under the name of Hope if Hartford in the February 1945 issue of Farm Journal. For full-size pattern pieces click here. Block Size: 12” square Materials Yardage is estimated for 44” fabric.
CuttingPattern pieces are full size and include ¼” seam allowance, as do all dimensions given.
· Cut 4: A, red; or cut a 6 ¼’ square in quarters diagonally · Cut 4: A, navy; or cut a 6 ¼” square in quarters diagonally · Cut 4: B, white; or cut two 5 7/8” squares in half diagonally · Cut 4: C, red; or cut 2 ½” x 5 ½” strips · Cut 1: D, red; or cut a 2 ½” square
Piecing
· Stitch a red A to a navy A, as shown to form a pieced triangle. Make 4 identical pieced triangles.
· Stitch a white B to each pieced triangle to form a pieced square.
· Stitch a C to the navy side if each pieced square.
· Place the D square right side downward on the pieced units, positioning is as illustrated. Sew a partial seam, stopping at least ¾” before the edge of the D square.
· Add the other pieced units, stitching each to one side if the D square. The numbers in the diagram indicate the order in which the pieced units should be stitched to D.
·
You must set-in the fourth
pieced unit to complete the block. Stitch the seams in the order indicated
by the diagram. When you stitch the second seam, complete the partial seam
stitched when you joined the first pieced unit to the D square. |
