Foundation Piecing (page 2 of 2)                           Whether you enjoy piecing by hand or by machine, you'll find that foundation piecing is for you. 

 

Step 9

  • Fold the foundation out of the way and trim the seam allowance to 1/8". (#9)

Step 10

  • Press the fabrics open. (#10)

  • In the same way, select, align and sew fabrics to the remaining sections in numerical order. Remember that all fabrics should be cut to extend at least 1/2" beyond the seamline on all sides before stitching. Trim seams to 1/8" after sewing. (#11 through #20)

Press each fabric piece as needed before moving on to the next section. Remember to stitch fabrics to the foundation in numerical order.

  • After all sections of the foundation are covered and the block is complete, baste the block in the seam allowance (halfway between the stitching line and the broken line) to hold all fabrics in place. (#21)

  • Trim the block on the broken line. (#22)

Step 23

  • This is the completed Airplane block.
