Piece this fun block by hand or machine.

Try designing this block with light and then dark star points. By experimenting with contrast, you'll be amazed at how many different looks you can create. Then play with the corner units to get even more variations.

BLOCK SIZE: 9 1/4"

MATERIALS

Blue print at least 10" square
Brown print at least 10" square
Light print at least 8" x 13"

CUTTING The pattern pieces are full size and include a 1/4" seam allowance, as do all dimensions given.

Cut 4: A, blue print
Cut 4: B, blue print; or cut two 3 5/8" squares, then cut them in half diagonally to yield 4 half-square triangles
Cut 8: A, brown print
Cut 4: A, light print
Cut 4: C, light print; or cut one 5" square, then cut it in quarters diagonally to yield 4 quarter-square triangles
Cut 4: B, light print; or cut two 3 5/8" squares, then cut them in half diagonally to yield 4 half-square triangles

DIRECTIONS

	Sew a light print A to a blue print A, as shown, backstitching at each dot.
	Stitch a light print C between 2 brown print A's, backstitching at the dot, as before.
	In the same manner, join the 2 units to make a quarter-star, as shown. Make 4.
	Sew 2 quarter-stars together to make a half-star. Make 2.
	Join the half-stars, carefully matching the seams in the center, to make a star.
	Sew a light print B into each corner of the star. Sew a blue print B to each corner to complete the block.
