Windblown Square Variation

Triangles set this block spinning!

Windblown Square Variation (12" x 12") features a six-inch center square perfect for special remembrances. Inscribe a block with a heartfelt sentiment and include it in a friendship quilt. Or center a printed motif in this area for a dramatic effect.

BLOCK SIZE: 12" square

MATERIALS                                                

  • 8" x 14" rectangle, white
  • 10" square, blue
  • 10" square, red

CUTTING                                                                                                    Dimensions include 1/4" seam allowance.

  • Cut 1: 6 1/2" square, white
  • Cut 4: A, white, or cut a 7 1/4" square in quarters diagonally
  • Cut 4: A, blue, or cut a 7 1/4" square in quarters diagonally
  • Cut 4: A, red, or cut a 7 1/4" square in quarters diagonally

DIRECTIONS

Square, pattern 1 Stitch blue A's to opposite sides of a 6 1/2" white square, as shown.
Square, pattern 2 Stitch blue A's to the remaining sides of the square, as shown.
Square, pattern 3 Stitch a red A to a white A as shown to make a pieced triangle. Make 4.
Square, pattern 4 Stitch the pieced triangles to opposite sides of the blue and white square.

Stitch the remaining pieced triangles to the remaining sides, completing the block.
